President's Message

Dear Members of Ikebana International,

Our organization is unique: our shared interest in a traditional Japanese art form is what binds our I.I. Chapterfs in all countries. As International President, understanding and enhancing the operation of I.I. is one of my functions and a valued trust. Two years ago, when I was First Vice President, at a Joint Meeting with HIH Princess Takamado, she said that the key to this organization is the word ginternational.h Ikebana International is an organization with a majority of international members. Without those international members this organization could not have survived for over 60 years. It is an honor as an American to follow in the footsteps of Mrs. Allen and strengthen the spirit of Ikebana International.

I want to make sure that all our members worldwide continue to feel they are part of the I.I. organization. In the Business Plan for 2017-2018, headquarters will establish two-way communications, upgrade our website, and implement an official email system to get information out to the chapters faster.

In the coming months, the Board of Directors and I will be discussing our website. Many comments and suggestions were made about the I.I. website, and I agree, itfs time to get onboard with social media. How we plan to do this will be one of the topics discussed. We hope to make the website user friendly and more informative to members. It will be updated more frequently and will feature chapter activities and events that do not appear in the Chapter Activities newsletter.

We would like to update our contact us page, where you will be able to email Directors who are in charge of answering questions such as: how to revise Chapter Constitution and Bylaws, how to Host a Regional Conference, how to submit membership payment to Headquarters, and how to submit articles for Chapter Activities.

Also, if your chapter doesnft already have a website or Facebook page, I recommend that you create one. I have friended many chapters on their Facebook page, and itfs a great way for me to see your activities and to comment. Hopefully, with more exposure on social media, we can make many more people aware of our gFriendship through Flowersh motto and increase membership.
